Alive & Kicking’s Shika ball, launched in partnership with Southwest Airlines, Gina Din Foundation and GoodMaker Films, has been highly commended at the Materials Recycling World National Awards 2015.
At our Kenyan workshop we made 1,800 balls from the leather of old SWA plane seats. In doing so, we trained ten young adults how to stitch footballs and donated 1,000 high quality leather balls to SOS Children’s Villages.
The judges were very impressed by the quality of the product, the innovation of the recycling process and the overall social impact of the project.
In an extremely strong field, we were edged out by the fantastic recycled wood from Kedel – congratulations to them, and all the other winners on the night!
