2013 was another significant and successful year in Alive & Kicking’s development. Our not-for-profit stitching centres in Kenya, Zambia and Ghana continued to make impressive strides in retail while pushing forward with innovative and exciting social outreach and health awareness programmes.
A&K Ghana successfully completed its first health awareness initiative, teaching football coaches and young people in Accra about HIV and malaria. A&K Kenya launched the first ever training programme for the blind, using specially designed ‘sound balls’ and arranging training sessions and tournaments for over 500 visually impaired children. In Zambia, we built on the success of previous years to take our hugely successful HIV awareness roadshow to the Central Province. The year also saw thousands of balls donated across each country, including the matched donations from our award winning ‘Balls For Africa’ partnership with John Lewis.
The Alive & Kicking Annual Review 2013 has information on all these stories and more, including the impact our work has on our staff and communities, the progress we have made in terms of publicity and support, and information about how you can get involved and support our progress going forward.
