Our prices are changing from 13/2/2017

Here at Alive and Kicking, we pride ourselves on producing high quality footballs for affordable prices. As a result, our prices have remained competitively low in recent years. Following a review of costs for 2016 we now need to take the step of increasing our costs (marginally) as a result of an increase of shipping and importation charges. So from 13/2/2017 the cost of some of our footballs is going to increase. But don’t worry. All the profits from our sales out of the UK will still go back into supporting, growing and developing our charitable work in Africa. If you want to grab yourself a quality football – now’s your opportunity! Just follow this link: https://aliveandkicking.org/alive-and-kickin/shop/uk-world/products/ : 19

Alive and Kicking wins national social enterprise award

Alive and Kicking was pleased to win the International Impact Award at the UK Social Enterprise Awards held in London on 28 November 2016. The award is an endorsement of our model: creating fairly paid ethical jobs and using proceeds to raise awareness about preventable while also increasing access to sport. Glenn Cummings, Alive and Kicking CEO said: ‘It was a real honour to be recognised by our peers. It is amazing for our 155 Africa-based staff, for most of whom working for Alive and Kicking is their first proper job, to be recognised at this great event.  Alive and Kicking is making a real impact on this generation and the next, and demonstrates daily how social businesses can thrive in Africa.’  Alive and Kicking and the other winners were presented with bespoke trophies made by the social enterprise, Designs in Mind, which employs people with mental health problems. Social enterprises also supplied all the goods and services on the night, including the catering, rigging, drinks, flower displays and goody bags. The Awards are organised by Social Enterprise UK, the national trade body for social enterprise. “Year on year the UK Social Enterprise Awards get bigger and better. This year the competition was particularly fierce, so a big congratulations Alive and Kicking for taking home a trophy.” (Peter Holbrook CBE, Social Enterprise UK’s Chief Executive) : 30

Alive and Kicking Kenya to coach trainers to empower visually impaired

This week A+K, sponsored by Safaricom, is privileged to host 8-10 games/sports sighted teachers, from various parts of Kenya namely Bomet, Kitui, Nyanza, Likoni and Meru, at CMM Leaders Training Grounds, Ongata Rongai, next to Maxwell Academy beginning Tuesday 28th November. The sound ball is a specially designed football for the blind used in 5-aside or 7-aside play. To build up the sport, Alive and Kicking has looked beyond producing the blind football, and is investing in training coaches. There are plans for on-site coach follow up and assessment, mini-tournaments at county level and developing competitive players. Kenya Society for the Blind (KSB) also joined the A+K initiative to raise awareness on football for the blind, sometimes referred to as futsal, offering eye checks and linkages to the schools earmarked for this week’s training. The schools include: Korara Primary School, Bomet, Central and Muslim Primary (Kitui), Likoni School for the Blind (Mombasa), Kibos School for the Blind (Nyanza) and St Lucy Meru School. A+K welcomes the media’s creativity, innovation and networks to join the campaign for greater impact at the community level.
