Meet Eunice

“Our director saw I had the ambition to help our staff. So I have trained in sign language.”

Meet Eunice, one of the highly skilled, talented team at Alive and Kicking Kenya who made your new ball! 

Eunice has two important roles at Alive and Kicking. Not only does she work in the sorting department making sure the panels used will make perfectly round balls; she also signs for our many D/deaf members of staff. 

“I now have the ability,” says Eunice, “and I want to learn more and more sign language because we have D/deaf staff here and I have encouraged them and given them hope.”

Breaking the barriers of exclusion in the workplace are important to Eunice as she has experienced them herself. Eunice’s physical disability has made it difficult for her to find work in the past.  “It is very difficult because of my situation,” she explains, “because when you apply for a job they can’t be helpful to you. They say, ‘You’re lame. How can you do anything?'”

But Eunice has a message for those who doubt her abilities: 

“We have shown them that we can. So long as we are given the chance we can do perfect.”
