2014 was a year of progress for Alive & Kicking across Kenya, Zambia, Ghana and the UK. Our staff in all four countries continued to pursue our social aims with great dedication and creativity with a number of new and exciting initiatives.
A&K Ghana launched an innovative partnership with UK Sport and Comic Relief, which saw 136 emerging entrepreneurs trained in business and selling techniques and given 1,000 footballs as seed capital for their future endeavours.
In Kenya, we partnered with Southwest Airlines to make 1,800 footballs from recycled leather from airplane seats. 1,000 of these were donated to SOS Children’s Villages, and 10 young adults from their projects were trained as ball-stitchers.
A&K Zambia took our HIV Awareness Roadshow to four locations across Lusaka Province, training 78 local teachers and coaches in sports-based HIV educational techniques.
