Alive and Kicking Kenya to coach trainers to empower visually impaired

30th November 2016

img-20161129-wa0001This week, A+K is privileged to host 8-10 games/sports sighted teachers, from various parts of Kenya namely Bomet, Kitui, Nyanza, Likoni and Meru, at CMM Leaders Training Grounds, Ongata Rongai, next to Maxwell Academy beginning Tuesday 28th November.

The sound ball is a specially designed football for the blind used in 5-aside or 7-aside play. To build up the sport, Alive and Kicking has looked beyond producing the blind football, and is investing in training coaches. There are plans for on-site coach follow up and assessment, mini-tournaments at county level and developing competitive players.img-20161129-wa0010

Kenya Society for the Blind (KSB) also joined the A+K initiative to raise awareness on football for the blind, sometimes referred to as futsal, offering eye checks and linkages to the schools earmarked for this week’s training. The schools include: Korara Primary School, Bomet, Central and Muslim Primary (Kitui), Likoni School for the Blind (Mombasa), Kibos School for the Blind (Nyanza) and St Lucy Meru School.

A+K welcomes the media’s creativity, innovation and networks to join the campaign for greater impact at the community level. Follow us on twitter @ballsforKenya Facebook: ballsforkenya, www.aliveandkicking.org
